4 Simple Steps to Conquer Mind Clutter

Who do you think you are? That’s right, you. The one putting on her mascara. Who do you think you are? Who do you think wants to hear anything you have to say? What do you have to offer? Why do you continue to…

STOP. Capture. Redirect. Replace.

"Who do you think you are?" is the actual phrase I heard in my head on a Saturday morning before a recent speaking engagement. And the rest is a compilation of several thoughts that ensued after. Thankfully, I have been practicing this thing that I preach. Be aware. Be aware of negative self-talk. Or negative attacks in the mind…whatever, this thing is. Limiting beliefs. Lies. All of it a ploy to keep me stuck. To keep all of us stuck.

You know what? I’m not going to take it anymore. And you don’t have to either.

Let’s talk about the steps you and I need to take. Steps to help us get free from the insane road of adverse conversation in our heads. To get free of negative mind clutter.

1. Stop. Stop the wild rampage of thoughts taking you down the easy, yet detrimental path chiseled in your brain. Stop going down that road. Quit acting and believing as if you have no control over it.

2. Capture. Hey, harness it and put an end to it. Take every thought captive. We wouldn’t have been told to do it if we weren’t capable of the catch.

3. Redirect. Turn those thoughts around right here and now. Choose to go a different direction. It is a choice.

4. Replace. Replace thought with truth. Period. Do it and do it quickly. Out loud if possible.

"Who do you think you are?" Well guess what…I’m onto the ploy. I took the above steps seriously and I called the Father of Lies out on it. I replied out loud; with mascara wand in hand, into the mirror, “You know who I am?! I am the Daughter of the King…that’s who I am! So there." With a teeny start of tears, I pushed through it. I recited truth after truth.

I finished my make-up, loaded up my stuff, and off I went to speak.

Who do I think I am?

I am a speaker, coach, and author. 

I am a work in progress; in refinement. I am picking up, shaking off, and going back out there again.

I am a fighter. I am a winner.

I am a conqueror.

I am here to tell you there is hope.
